Is the test kit really free?

Yes — 100% free. Utah Radon is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization. The kit, shipping, and lab analysis are all covered at no cost to you. Our mission is to ensure every Utah family has access to radon testing.

How long does the test take?

Place the test kit in your home for 48 hours, then mail it to our certified lab in the prepaid envelope. You'll receive your results within 1–2 weeks via email.

Where should I place the test kit?

Accepted Answer

Place the test kit on the lowest lived-in level of your home — typically the basement or ground floor. Keep it away from windows, doors, and exterior walls for the most accurate reading.

What happens if my radon levels are high?

Accepted Answer

There is no safe level of radon. The WHO recommends mitigation at 2.7 pCi/L, and the EPA recommends considering it at 2.0 pCi/L. If your results are at or above 2.7 pCi/L, we'll provide guidance on radon mitigation. A sub-slab depressurization (SSD) system typically costs $1,800–$2,300 and is highly effective at reducing indoor radon levels.

Do I have to live in Utah?
